GLOBAL GONGS LABORATORY

The Gamelan House – Veemkade 578, Amsterdam Start: 6:00 pm | Admission € 5,- Reservations are required viaheleenverleur111@gmail.com

Day of the Composer continues with the neighbors on the Veemkade, in Het Gamelanhuis.

Composers Sinta Wullur (Dutch-Indonesian) and Maarten Bauer (third generation Indo) have translated their bond with Indonesia into music. Their musical quest goes through gamelan studies in Indonesia, the Netherlands and Singapore. They are convinced that gamelan is an asset to music in the 21st century.

A group of composition and musicology students was recently called together by composer Maarten Bauer to become acquainted with the possibilities of the Global Gongs.

The results of the introduction to the gamelan are presented in a short concert. A demonstration is given explaining how you can mix elements and principles from  traditional gamelan and world music with classical and modern western music. In addition to compositions and arrangements by Sinta Wullur and Maarten Bauer, you will hear arrangements by Steve Reich, Nino Rota and Eric Satie.

Part of the presentation is the invitation to the public to participate in playing the gongs. A great opportunity to get acquainted with the gamelan phenomenon from the experience of the sound and the interplay.
